Coral Springs, Florida — A humanitarian mission ended in tragedy on Monday morning when a small aircraft transporting hurricane relief supplies to Jamaica crashed into a residential pond in Coral Springs, Florida, killing both people on board.
According to the Coral Springs Police Department, the Beechcraft King Air twin-turboprop took off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport around 10:14 a.m., but within minutes, it lost altitude and plunged into a pond in the Windsor Bay neighborhood, a quiet suburban community near Fort Lauderdale.

Home surveillance footage captured the final moments of the doomed flight, showing the aircraft clipping a patch of land before nosediving into the water and breaking apart on impact.
“There was no actual plane to be seen — just debris,” said Deputy Chief Mike Moser of the Coral Springs–Parkland Fire Department. “Divers entered the water and searched for any victims but didn’t find any initially. We later confirmed there were two fatalities.”
Moser noted that, despite the proximity to homes, no structures were struck or damaged.
Emergency crews from Coral Springs and Coconut Creek responded swiftly, securing the area as the operation shifted from rescue to recovery. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has since launched an investigation to determine what caused the crash, which occurred less than five minutes after takeoff.
Officials confirmed that the flight was carrying vital relief supplies for Jamaica, which continues to recover from the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa. The Category 5 storm, which slammed into the island in late October, destroyed key infrastructure, left all 14 parishes without power, and triggered massive flooding.
Florida officials described the scene as especially heartbreaking, given the aircraft’s humanitarian purpose.
“It’s an unimaginable loss — a mission of compassion ending in tragedy,” one official remarked.
Investigators are now piecing together flight data, maintenance records, and communication logs to understand why the plane went down so soon after takeoff.
