The community is mourning the passing of Mr. Stanley Lee Ralph Jr., affectionately known as “Big Stan,” whose towering presence was matched only by his compassion, humility, and lifelong commitment to helping others.
Born to Dr. Stanley Lee Ralph Sr. and The Hon. Ivy Ralph, O.J., Stanley carried forward his family’s legacy of excellence, service, and compassion with quiet grace and unwavering dedication.

A proud graduate and football scholar of the University of Illinois, Stanley was celebrated for his athletic prowess—but his true calling emerged beyond the field. He devoted his life to education, becoming a behavioral support teacher for students facing some of life’s greatest challenges. His classroom became a safe haven for young people navigating anger, trauma, and even legal detention.
For many, Mr. Ralph’s classroom was their last chance before the system gave up on them—but he never did. Every day, he created a space where learning and healing could happen side by side; where trust could be rebuilt; and where even the smallest progress was celebrated with a hug, a high-five, or a word of faith. Equal parts teacher, counselor, and mentor, he lived by the belief that no child was too broken to learn and no story was too far gone to be rewritten.
Known for his calm spirit, steady strength, and fierce compassion, Stanley’s life was deeply guided by faith and family. He was the devoted husband of Andrea Ralph, his childhood sweetheart whom he met at age twelve and promised to marry—a promise he joyfully fulfilled seven years later. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and service.
Stanley was a cherished father to Stanley III and Christal, and a proud grandfather to Leonora. He was also a beloved brother to Sheryl Lee, George, Tim, and Michael, and a treasured uncle to nine adoring nieces and nephews.
His giving spirit extended beyond the classroom. Following Hurricane Melissa, Stan personally filled six barrels of school supplies for The Chantilly Primary School in memory of his parents, who were longtime supporters of the institution.
Mr. Stanley Lee Ralph Jr. will be remembered for his boundless heart, his belief in second chances, and the countless lives he transformed—one student, one lesson, and one act of kindness at a time.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
