KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness has reaffirmed Jamaica’s strong partnership with Canada after holding a bilateral meeting with Canada’s newly elected Prime Minister, Mark Carney.
In a statement shared via Instagram, Holness said the talks focused on enhancing cooperation in key areas including security, regional affairs, education, and training.

“Moments ago, I had a bilateral meeting with Canada’s new Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Mark Carney. Our discussions were grounded in reinforcing the strong bonds between our two nations,” Holness wrote.
He further noted that Jamaica and Canada “share a long history of friendship, mutual respect, and close cooperation,” and expressed optimism about advancing joint priorities for sustainable development, prosperity, and regional stability.
Carney, who became Canada’s 24th prime minister earlier this year, is the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. The meeting with Holness marks one of his first formal bilateral engagements with a Caribbean head of government.
