A major political rally in St. John’s, Antigua, ended in chaos on Saturday night after gunshots reportedly rang out, sending thousands of attendees scrambling for safety.
The event, hosted by the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), had drawn an estimated 5,000 people and featured live performances from popular dancehall artistes, including Masicka and Sizzla.

According to eyewitness accounts, the situation escalated while Masicka was in the middle of his set.
“The rally ended in gunshots after Masicka was basically performing the third song,” one attendee said. “Sizzla had already performed earlier in the night.”
Videos circulating on social media show the moment panic broke out, with what appeared to be gunfire in the background as patrons rushed to exit the venue.
The rally was part of campaign activities ahead of Antigua and Barbuda’s upcoming general elections, scheduled for April 30. The ruling ABLP, led by Prime Minister Gaston Browne, is expected to face a strong challenge from the opposition United Progressive Party (UPP).
There has been no immediate official report on injuries or arrests linked to the incident, and authorities have yet to provide a detailed account of what triggered the gunfire.
The disruption has raised fresh concerns about security at large public and political events, particularly as the country approaches a closely contested election.
