ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — Antigua and Barbuda has been crowned Caribbean’s Leading Meeting and Conference Destination 2025 by the World Travel Awards (WTA), solidifying its growing reputation as a premier hub for international gatherings and business tourism.
The twin-island nation outperformed regional heavyweights Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and The Bahamas to earn the prestigious title — a recognition that reflects the country’s strategic investment in the MICE sector (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions).

Tourism Minister Charles “Max” Fernandez described the win as “a proud moment for our people and our tourism industry,” noting that it validates the nation’s expanding infrastructure and world-class hospitality.
“This recognition is a testament to our country’s growing and expanding tourism product, as well as the world-class level of service, amenities, and accessibility we offer to host international conferences and meetings,” Fernandez said.
He highlighted the success of several major events that boosted the nation’s global profile, including the United Nations SIDS Conference (2024), the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Marketplace (2025), and the OAS 55th General Assembly held in June.
Looking ahead, Antigua and Barbuda is gearing up to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in 2026, which is expected to draw world leaders and further elevate the nation’s standing as a leading regional conference destination.
“This award highlights our exceptional hospitality, stunning venues, and vibrant culture, making Antigua and Barbuda an ideal choice for international events,” Fernandez added. “We look forward to continuing to welcome global delegates to our beautiful twin-island nation.”
This latest WTA recognition reinforces Antigua and Barbuda’s transformation from a traditional sun-and-sand destination into a dynamic center for global business, diplomacy, and innovation in the Caribbean.
