Former Great Britain bobsled star Mica Moore will compete for Jamaica in the women’s monobob event at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, marking a remarkable new chapter in her athletic career.
Moore, 32, from Newport in south Wales, originally made her Olympic debut for Team Great Britain at the 2018 PyeongChang Games, where she and teammate Mica McNeill delivered Britain’s best-ever result in women’s bobsleigh, finishing eighth.

In December 2024, she secured Jamaican citizenship through her family heritage — her grandfather Venson Byfield came to the UK as part of the Windrush generation — and embraced the opportunity to compete for Jamaica on the Olympic stage.
Moore’s sporting background is broad: before transitioning to bobsleigh, she was a sprinter, representing Wales in the 4×100m relay at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
After leaving the British winter sports programme in 2022, citing issues she experienced within the system, Moore returned to competitive bobsleigh in 2025, this time racing for Jamaica at Europe Cup events, reigniting her Olympic ambitions under the green, black and gold.
Her qualification adds to a strong showing for Jamaica at the 2026 Games: the country has secured three bobsleigh slots— a women’s monobob, a two-man, and a four-man team — continuing the legacy of Jamaican participation in a sport immortalized by the movie Cool Runnings.
Moore has openly shared the emotional significance of representing Jamaica, calling it “the greatest honour” of her career and expressing pride in showcasing her heritage at the world’s biggest winter sporting event.
In addition to Olympic qualification, Moore and her Jamaican teammates have shown strong performances on the international circuit, including podium finishes in North American Cup competitions as the nation builds momentum ahead of Milan-Cortina.
