The New York Urban League in partnership with BET, Frederick Douglass Boulevard Alliance and Harlem Tavern will host a fun, informative afternoon on Saturday, October 10th, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Join us at Harlem Tavern for a free community celebration featuring live music and entertainment, special guests, voter registration and voting resources, giveaways and opportunities to connect with local community leaders. The event is part of BET’s Vote Plus Initiative.
The Community Day is about coming together, staying informed about the issues that impact our neighborhoods and making sure the community has the information and resources they need to make their voice heard.

Why This Moment Matters
As we approach this year’s critical 2026 midterm elections on November 3, the stakes for Black America could not be higher. Recent data shows that 59% of Black voters feel federal policies have directly hurt them personally impacting our health, jobs, schools, and cost of living. Midterm elections determine the key local and state leadership, from governors and attorneys general to school boards and district attorneys, that shape our daily lives. Yet research reveals a striking gap: 60% of Black voters report that no one simply asked them to take civic action this year. Most people are ready to act; they just need a welcoming space, a trusted messenger, and a clear call to action.
Eat & Connect: A relaxed gathering at Harlem Tavern where neighbors can enjoy good food, fellowship, and celebrate Harlem’s rich culture.
Photos & Community: Photo moments for guests to share their civic pride across social media and inspire their networks.
The “Vote Plus” Call to Action: Vote on November 3: Encourage everyone to make a clear voter plan and bring three friends or family members with them to the polls.
Take Action on November 4: Introduce the core concept of Vote+ taking one additional civic action the day after the election. Whether that means attending a local town hall or school board meeting, supporting Black-owned businesses, sharing verified rights information, or mentoring a first-time voter, we want to show that voting is the floor, not the ceiling, of our collective power.
The New York Urban League is also hosting phone banking evenings where volunteers will encourage early voting, partnering with Audacy on a Get Out the Vote radio campaign, and organizing buses to Peekskill for a door-to-door campaign.
