Jamaican dancehall artiste Popcaan has secured a United States visa, marking a major development in his efforts to reach fans in one of the world’s largest music markets.
The news was reported by DancehallMag on October 11, citing entertainment outlet The Shade Room. The development could allow the artiste, whose given name is Andrae Sutherland, to travel to the United States and pursue performance opportunities there.

Popcaan’s sister, Annalecia “Unruly Squid” Sutherland, expressed excitement about the breakthrough, describing it as an important milestone for the artiste and his family.
“Pops has put so much into his career, and as family, we know firsthand what this journey has taken,” she said, according to The Shade Room. She added that she looked forward to the day American fans who have supported his music would be able to experience his performances in person.
Popcaan, known as the “Unruly Boss,” has developed an international following through his solo releases and collaborations, including work associated with Canadian rapper Drake’s OVO Sound label.
His difficulty obtaining access to the United States has been a subject of public discussion for several years. In 2023, he questioned on social media why he could travel to other destinations but not America, prompting renewed attention to his situation and calls from supporters for a resolution.
The reported visa approval has generated excitement among dancehall fans, who have long anticipated the possibility of seeing him perform in the United States. Other Jamaican reggae and dancehall artistes have also experienced changes in their U.S. visa status in recent years, highlighting the importance of the American market to the genre’s international reach.
Although the visa approval creates new possibilities for Popcaan, specific dates or venues for U.S. performances had not been announced in the initial report.
