The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has called for a stable, Haitian-led political process following the end of the mandate of Haitiās Transitional Presidential Council, urging national stakeholders to work together to restore security, prepare for elections and address the countryās humanitarian crisis.
In a statement issued on February 10, 2026, CARICOMās heads of government noted that the council had stepped down at the end of its two-year tenure. Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-AimĆ© and the Council of Ministers assumed responsibility for the countryās governance during the interim period.

CARICOM said the immediate priorities should include improving security, intensifying preparations for national elections and promoting social and economic recovery. The regional bloc stressed that Haitiās future must be determined through a Haitian-led and Haitian-owned process that includes consultation and dialogue among political stakeholders, civil society and the wider population.
The statement also highlighted the urgency of addressing the humanitarian hardships affecting millions of Haitians. CARICOM supported Fils-AimĆ©ās stated priorities of providing food, healthcare and shelter to vulnerable people, while emphasizing that security and human dignity must advance together.
The councilās departure created a new challenge for Haiti, which has struggled to establish a stable governing arrangement amid widespread gang violence, institutional weakness and repeated delays to elections. CARICOM reiterated that overcoming political divisions and reaching agreement on a credible transition would be essential to restoring democratic governance.
The regional organization said it would continue engaging Haitian stakeholders through its Eminent Persons Group and supporting efforts to establish a workable political process. It also reaffirmed its commitment to Haiti as a member of the Caribbean Community.
CARICOMās heads of government said they looked forward to meeting Fils-AimĆ© during their 50th Regular Meeting, held in St. Kitts and Nevis from February 24 to 27, 2026, to discuss Haitiās priorities and the way forward.
