In celebration of the Schomburg Center’s 100th anniversary, and in honor of the legacy of the “Lion of Lenox Avenue” Congressman Charles B. Rangel, Mayor Eric Adams hosted the Harlem Faith Tour on Thursday joined by fellow faith leaders that continued his citywide tour engaging spiritual leadership.

This was a moment for churches, temples, synagogues, mosques, and nonprofits to come together, share concerns, and hear directly from city agencies working to support your vital work in the community.

Pastor Gilford T. Monrose moderated the forum as Adams as he levied several questions and concerns from the audience on challenges facing Harlem and the ways the City can leverage our faith leaders in support of a safer and inclusive New York.
One of the issues Adams spoke directly to was open drug use of New York City streets, and the safe injection sites around the boroughs. He emphasized that he wanted a ‘soft approach’ by outreach teams to dealing with drug users, because there is no justification for incarcerating someone for having a disease.
Faith in Your Borough (5 Boro Tour & Evening of Faith) is the Mayor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Partnerships’ initiative to connect Interfaith Leaders with crucial public resources. Through these events, the OFCP have hosted bi-monthly 5 Borough Tour and Evening of Faith events across the boroughs. These sessions have allowed faith and community leaders to meet with city agencies such as the Department of Education (DOE), Department of Buildings (DOB), Department of Finance (DOF), FDNY, and the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), to receive technical assistance and support for issues unique to their boroughs.
