Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair and Assembly Member Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, who represents the Forty Second District, celebrated her birthday on Tuesday evening with a warm gathering of colleagues, friends, and community members at the upscale Kelly and Emerson Lounge, located inside the Beekman Hotel at Five Beekman Street.
The celebration drew several elected officials, members of the judiciary, courthouse staff, district leaders, and longtime supporters. Guests enjoyed an evening filled with delicious cuisine, crafted beverages, and live entertainment. The event took place in the hotel’s cellar, a space known for its vaulted brickwork, vintage chandeliers, and refined New York City architecture, creating an intimate and elegant backdrop for the occasion.

Born and raised in Flatbush, Bichotte Hermelyn entered the Legislature in 2015. Since then, she has introduced more than two hundred pieces of legislation, thirty four of which have been signed into law, and she has co sponsored more than two hundred and fifty additional bills.
Speaking with the Brooklyn Eagle, she expressed optimism about the future of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, noting that the borough’s political landscape is becoming more unified. She highlighted the contributions of the city’s new mayor, whom she credited with helping to strengthen party cohesion, as well as newly elected City Council Member Julie Menin, who represents the east side of Manhattan and Roosevelt Island.
Bichotte Hermelyn emphasized that collaboration among the governor, city and state elected officials, and the incoming mayor will be essential in overcoming the challenges posed by the current presidential administration. She shared that she was deeply moved by the more than one hundred people who braved the rain to celebrate with her and to offer support both professionally and personally.
“Tonight we had a room filled with friends and an atmosphere filled with hope, togetherness, and unity,” she said. “I consider every person who attended, whether from organized labor, public service, education, construction, or nonprofit organizations, to be a valued friend who contributes to the rich fabric of New York City and Brooklyn. Their support is a true blessing, and I am incredibly thankful.”
Throughout her tenure as an assembly member and district leader, Bichotte Hermelyn has been a dedicated advocate on key issues affecting her district and the broader New York community. Her work spans immigration, education, economic development, unemployment, healthcare access, school safety, senior services, affordable housing, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, and other matters that influence quality of life for residents.
Her academic credentials reflect a commitment to excellence. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from SUNY Buffalo, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in Secondary Education, and a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from Buffalo State College. She also earned a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School in 2024.
