Dancehall sensation Nigy Boy, who is visually impaired, uses his notoriety and success not just for personal benefit but also to encourage and inspire others. The “Continental Boss” who is based in New York, surprised the students and faculty of Stella Maris School by stopping by. The young man was one of the main acts at the 10th Annual Soca and Culture Festival held at the Civic Center in Belize City last weekend, along with deejays Mr. Vegas and Byron Lee & The Frontliners featuring Oscar B, Lima, and Leon Coldero.
It is the sole special needs school in Belize, established by the government sixty-six years ago. The school offers academic programs as well as courses in agricultural science, cake design, and cosmetology.

Nigy was so moved by his visit to the school that he gave money to festival co-founder Omar Arzu for the school during his performance at the event. Arzu personally gave Stella Maris principal Francella Cantun Nigy’s cash gift three days later.
In a recent interview, Cantun told reporters. “I want Nigy to know that we truly appreciate his kind gesture and the warm heart that he has for children with special needs.”
“I want him to know that our students are inspired by him being legally blind and becoming so popular and famous!! They now know that they can be like him, and are now motivated to be the best version of themselves,” she noted.
Cantun stated that the money donated would help the pupils.
“We will use the funds to buy supplies and materials for the children to work within the skills program. We will also give them a treat by purchasing juice and snacks for them,” she further noted.
Several waves of applause and cheers greeted Nigy Boy as he shared his musical journey with the Stella Maris pupils. The thrill reached its zenith when he spontaneously sang his song “Continent.”
Nigy Boy expressed, “Honestly, I was inspired by the vibe at the school and just getting a chance to meet and greet with the students and teachers who are doing a fantastic job.”
“I had a conversation with a legally blind student that touched me and knowing that I was in a similar position just a few years ago, I felt compelled to pay the goodwill forward” he noted.
One of Nigy Boy’s favorite moments was meeting Miss Universe Belize 2024 Halima Hoy, after he gave a fantastic performance for the fans in Belize. He shared an Instagram photo of the two of them with the following caption: “Looking into the eyes of the universe @halima_hoy sharing is caring.”
Some have referred to the singer Nigy Boy, born Nigel Hector in Montego Bay, St. James, as “the Stevie Wonder of reggae.”
His admirers appreciated his enthusiasm for singing as he frequently heated social media with uploads on TikTok and Instagram. The young performer’s breakthrough came last year when his song “Continent” went viral while he was still a student at a Long Island, USA, institution. The singer’s arrival was warmly received, and word quickly spread that he would be performing at a significant reggae event in Jamaica.
During his July performance at his hometown’s Reggae Sumfest, Nigy Boy received recognition from the St. James Municipal Corporation.
