Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and record producer Montell Jordan announced he is stepping into a bold new chapter as ZERO Prostate Cancer’s newest Global Ambassador. The chart-topping R&B legend behind the 90’s megahit, “This Is How We Do It” is opening up about how prostate cancer changed his life, using his platform to educate, empower, and save more lives.
“I’ve been silent about the hardest chapter of my life, but not anymore,” said Jordan. I want to use my voice to help save lives, because this is truly how we do it; by speaking up and breaking down the barriers that prevent those most at risk from getting screened.”

In late 2024, Jordan quietly revealed on social media that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, though he still wanted to keep the full story of his prostate cancer battle as private as possible. But behind the post a deeper story was unfolding, one of faith, fear, resilience, and recovery. Now, moved by the recent loss of his father-in-law to cancer and a new diagnosis, Jordan is ready to step into the spotlight to encourage men, especially Black men at higher
risk of the disease, to get screened.
Today, Black men face the highest prostate
cancer death rates in the country. They are 70 percent more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer and twice as likely to die from it.
Jordan’s ambassadorship comes at a pivotal moment as ZERO gears up for National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September, kicking off its $20 Million Blitz the Barriers initiative in Atlanta, where Black men are up to five times more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer.
“This partnership with ZERO is deeply personal for me,” said Jordan. “As a pastor, husband and father, I’m eager to use my platform to help close the survival gap not only for Black men but for all those at highest risk for this disease, especially people in underserved communities. Following a lot of prayer and support from my wife and children, now is the time for me to share my story and hold nothing back as it’s still unfolding, and lend my voice to the fight to save more lives.”
As part of his role, Jordan will:
- Share his full prostate cancer journey for the first time through a forthcoming documentary Sustain, a deeply personal and inspiring new film set to debut in 2026, in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of his chart-topping debut single.
- Host screening events for men during his highly-anticipated 30th Anniversary concert tour kicking off in 2026.
- Lend his voice to national public service announcements, digital campaigns, and faith-based outreach;
- Collaborate with fellow ZERO Global Ambassadors, including Hall of Fame Sportscaster Ernie Johnson Jr., legendary music executive Mathew Knowles, Two-time NBA All-Star and Founder of FISLL, Allan Houston, and Bravo star Dwight Eubanks
Jordan’s involvement also aligns ZERO’s health mission with cultural moments that matter, using music and storytelling to drive powerful calls to action.
“Our new partnership with Montell is sacred,”said Courtney Bugler, ZERO Prostate Cancer President and CEO. “His courage to share his ongoing journey and full support will help sound the alarm for men everywhere that it’s time to let go of the stigmas associated with prostate cancer. It’s time to talk, and it’s time to take action. This collaboration is not just another footnote in his life; it’s a new legacy.
Together, we hope to rewrite the script on what survivorship looks like: loud, proud, and without shame.”
