The family of the late Jamaican tourism pioneer and business magnate Gordon “Butch” Stewart has announced that longstanding differences arising after his death have been amicably resolved, paving the way for a renewed focus on preserving and expanding one of the Caribbean’s most influential business empires.
In a joint statement released through the Bahamian law firm LennoxPaton, family members said they have settled disputes that emerged following Stewart’s passing in January 2021 and are now united in their commitment to advancing the legacy he built.

“The family of The Hon. Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart OJ, founder of the Sandals and Beaches Group, are pleased to announce that they have resolved their differences that arose following Butch’s death in January 2021,” the statement said.
The announcement brings closure to a period of uncertainty that followed the death of the iconic entrepreneur, whose vision transformed Sandals Resorts International into one of the world’s leading luxury all-inclusive hospitality brands and established Jamaica as a premier global tourism destination.

Stewart, who founded Sandals Resorts in 1981, built a business empire that expanded across the Caribbean and helped redefine luxury tourism in the region.
