Jamaica has been ranked the most peaceful country in the Caribbean in the 2026 Global Peace Index (GPI), earning the region’s highest placement while also securing a strong global standing. The island ranked 70th out of 163 countries worldwide and third in North and Central America, reflecting continued improvements in safety and stability.
The annual Global Peace Index, produced by the Institute for Economics & Peace, measures peacefulness using indicators such as levels of societal safety and security, ongoing domestic and international conflict, and militarization. The report is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading assessments of peace and stability.

Jamaica’s top regional ranking comes amid sustained efforts to strengthen public security and reduce violent crime. The country has recorded notable declines in major crimes in recent years, contributing to improvements in international assessments of safety and governance.
