The deceased have been identified as Shannon Gordon (4), Famous Amos (22), Mario Sullivan (42), Jowaine Walters (19), and Iysha Washington (39). An 11-year-old child remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Investigators believe the incident may be gang-related, though the motive has not been officially confirmed. Senior officers from the St. Catherine North Police Division, including Assistant Commissioner Christopher Phillips and Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, have visited the area to lead the investigation and reassure residents.
Education officials from Rosemount Primary and Infant School, where the young victim attended, expressed devastation at the news, describing the event as one that has “shaken the school community to its core.”
In response, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has launched a major operation in the area and announced a J$2 million reward for information leading to the capture of those responsible.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness and National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang have condemned the attack, pledging stronger anti-gang initiatives and increased police presence in Linstead to restore calm and security.
