The Government of Jamaica is mobilizing volunteers to support communities affected by Hurricane Melissa. Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, has announced the launch of a National Registry of Volunteers on the Government of Jamaica’s official website — the same platform being used to coordinate donations for Hurricane Melissa relief efforts.
Speaking at a special press briefing at Jamaica House on Monday, Minister Grange said the initiative was developed to ensure that the many Jamaicans eager to assist can do so in an organized and impactful way.

“The Government is aware that many persons want to help, and we have moved to put a system in place to allow them to do so,” she said. Through the registry, individuals can indicate their skills, preferred type of assistance, and availability to participate in relief and recovery activities.
“Perhaps you wish to assist with food distribution, shelter operations, or medical support. You may want to help with clean-up, counselling, transport, or administration. Whatever your skills are, however you want to help, just tell us when you sign up to the registry,” Grange explained. “And I am appealing to Jamaicans here in Jamaica and in the diaspora to sign up on this registry.”
She added that volunteers will be matched with needs on the ground based on their availability and expertise. “Based on when you are available and the type of volunteer work you would like to provide, we will contact you,” she said, noting that participants “will be briefed, equipped, and deployed in an efficient and coordinated way.”
