Charged with kidnapping four US nationals in July 2022 in Haiti’s central Artibonite area, Fleronvil was extradited on Monday, according to authorities.
Authorities reported that Fleronvil was apprehended in September while attempting to escape to the adjacent border with the Dominican Republic in the northern coastal town of Fort Liberte.
In line with a recent UN report, “Kokorat San Ras, despite its limited numbers, is also a very brutal gang” that functions inside the Artibonite area. Its twenty or so members have “committed acts of extreme violence, forcing people to abandon large areas of cropland and threatening agricultural production.”
According to the article, the group has been charged with murder, robbery, rape, kidnapping, and hijacking of vehicles and cargo.
The head of a different Haitian gang was extradited to the US last year and accused in relation to the kidnapping of sixteen US missionaries in October 2021. The 29-year-old “Yonyon,” Germine Joly, is charged with being the 400 Mawozo gang’s leader. The name means “400 Simpletons” when translated approximately.
