A High Court judge in Guyana has scheduled January 6, 2026, for the sentencing of Deonarine Dookhoo, who was found guilty of murdering his mother in a brutal incident four years ago.
Dookhoo, also known as Dinesh, was convicted by a 12-member jury before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the Berbice High Court. Prosecutors alleged that he killed his mother, Teshwattie Jaglall, sometime between June 30 and July 1, 2021, at her home on the West Coast of Berbice.

At the time of the killing, Dookhoo and his two children were living with Jaglall. Evidence presented at trial indicated that Dookhoo, who reportedly struggled with alcohol abuse, often became agitated when his mother confronted him about his drinking. According to the prosecution, an argument escalated, and Dookhoo attacked Jaglall with a cutlass, causing fatal injuries.
The court will determine his sentence at the upcoming hearing.
