NEW YORK: The New York based Caribbean Guyana Institute for Democracy (CGID) has written to Prime Minister of The Bahamas Philip Davis requesting that he orders the Royal Bahamas Police Force to conduct a proper and thorough investigation into the suspicious death of Guyanese American Dinari McAlmont on April 5, 2025. McAlmont, 23, was a resident of Bowie, Maryland. He was on vacation with his Parents at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort in the Bahamas, when he died tragically on Saturday, April 5.
Dinari’s mother, Mrs. Michelle Bacchus-Mcalmont, who was born in Guyana and is herself a United States citizen, wrote to the Democratic Leader in the United States Congress, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, CGID President, Rickford Burke, and other US politicians expressing deep frustration about the cavalier and dismissive manner in which Bahamian authorities dealt with her son’s death, and their failure to provide answers to the family amidst grave inconsistencies surrounding Dinari’s mysterious death within twenty-four hours of him arriving on the island.

In his letter to Prime Minister Davis Burke said that “Mrs. Bacchus-Mcalmont and her family desperately need answers as the circumstances and evidence suggest her son was potentially robbed and murdered while at the Atlantis in The Bahamas.” Burke said that apparently, Dinari got into an altercation with a person/s at a bar on the hotel’s premises. He noted that subsequent surveillance footage captured the chief of security assaulting Dinari outside a bathroom entrance, causing him to escape from that area.
“Mrs. Bacchus-Mcalmont and her family have been trying for months to persuade the Minister of National Security as well as the Royal Bahamas Police Force to conduct a comprehensive investigation into Dinari’s death, to no avail, the CGID President asserted in his letter to Prime Minister Davis.
Burke told Davis that the material inconsistencies have convinced Dinari’s family and others in the US that the Atlantis’ security staff and the Royal Bahamas Police Force are colluding to potentially cover up a homicide in this matter.
Mrs. Bacchus-Mc Almont said in her letter that she, her husband and Dinari traveled to Atlantis Paradise Island Resort on April 4, 2025, for vacation. The grieving mother said the trip was tragically cut short and became deadly a few hours after they arrived, when Dinari was found dead with no explanation.
Bahamian Police claimed that Dinari’s body was subsequently found on a beach a far distance away from where he was last seen alive at the bar. Bahamian Police also claimed that Dinari died by drowning. However, Dinari’s parents said his wallet was in his pocket and was not wet when it was recovered with all his money missing. They added that his body was covered in sand and had what appeared to be defensive wounds. The parents are adamant that Dinari was obviously killed elsewhere, and his body was dumped on the beach.
Burke told Davis that Dinari’s parents are also gravely concerned about inconsistencies regarding the alleged place and time of his death. Burke contended that “The Royal Bahamas Police Force claimed that he died on the beach, while the hospital stated that he died after he was brought to the emergency room.”
Burke told the Prime Minister that the matter can gravely impact the reputation of The Bahamas and its tourist industry, as the perception in the US is that Dinari’s was killed and his, as well as other Americans’ deaths are being covered up by Bahamian authorities. He said in the interest of justice, Davis should direct the Royal Bahamas Police Force and other appropriate security services to conduct a new, proper, fair, full, comprehensive and rigorous investigation into Dinari’s death so that all of the facts can be analyzed voraciously by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Bahamas for an informed determination on whether Dinari’s death was an accident or a homicide.
Burke’s letter was copied to several prominent US politicians and government officials including Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Leaders in the US House of Representatives, Chris Van Hollen, United States Senator form Maryland, Angela Alsobrooks, United States Senator form Maryland, Jamie Raskin, United States Representative for the 8th District of Maryland, Wes Moore, Governor of Maryland, Michael Kozak, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Herschel Walker, United States Ambassador to The Bahamas and Christopher Raia, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI New York Office.
