Capleton, widely known as “The Fireman,” has built a career spanning several decades, earning recognition for his energetic performances and music rooted in Rastafarian spirituality, cultural pride and social consciousness. His catalogue includes songs such as “Tour” and “Wings of the Morning,” while albums including Prophecy and I-Testament helped expand his international audience.
Tarrus Riley, known to fans as “Mr Singy Singy,” brings a melodic approach to contemporary reggae. Born in the Bronx and raised in Jamaica, Riley is the son of veteran singer Jimmy Riley and rose to international prominence with his album Parables, which featured the hit “She’s Royal.”
Riley has continued to build his reputation through albums such as Contagious, Love Situation and Healing, exploring themes of love, relationships, cultural identity and social issues.
The pairing brings together Capleton’s high-energy dancehall delivery and Riley’s soulful vocals, offering fans an evening celebrating two different but complementary sides of Jamaican music.
The performance will take place at NJPAC, located at 1 Center Street in downtown Newark. Tickets went on sale to the general public on October 9, with prices starting at US$65, subject to availability.
The Thanksgiving weekend concert is expected to draw reggae and dancehall enthusiasts from across New Jersey and the wider New York metropolitan area, continuing the strong presence of Jamaican music within the Caribbean diaspora.
