The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) has welcomed the nomination of Trinidad-born Jennifer Johnson-Carroll by U.S. President Donald Trump to serve as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Trinidad and Tobago.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Chamber described the nomination as a significant development in the longstanding relationship between the two countries. The nomination was formally submitted to the United States Senate on June 2, 2026, where it will undergo the confirmation process before Johnson-Carroll can assume the diplomatic post.

A native of Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago, Johnson-Carroll’s nomination is being hailed as a historic milestone. If confirmed, she would become the first Trinidad and Tobago-born woman to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, underscoring the growing influence and achievements of the Trinidad and Tobago diaspora in international public service.
AMCHAM T&T noted that Johnson-Carroll brings an extensive record of leadership and public service to the role. She previously served as the 18th Lieutenant Governor of Florida, becoming both the first woman elected to the position and the first Caribbean-born individual elected to statewide office in the state.
Throughout her career, Johnson-Carroll has held senior roles in government, public policy, community engagement, and advocacy, earning recognition for her commitment to civic leadership and public service.
“The nomination marks an important step in the appointment process and reflects the continued importance of the longstanding relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and the United States,” the Chamber said.
AMCHAM T&T acknowledged that the nomination must now proceed through review by the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee before being considered by the full Senate for confirmation.
“We look forward to the successful completion of that process and to welcoming a new United States Ambassador in the near future,” the organization stated.
The Chamber emphasized the importance of the bilateral relationship, describing the United States as one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most significant strategic partners. The two nations maintain deep ties across a range of sectors, including trade, investment, energy, security, education, technology, and cultural exchanges.
According to AMCHAM T&T, the partnership continues to play a critical role in promoting economic growth, democratic values, and regional cooperation throughout the Caribbean.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening commercial and diplomatic ties between both countries and expressed its willingness to work closely with the incoming ambassador to expand opportunities for investment, innovation, and collaboration.
