Barbados has been recognized as one of the safest travel destinations in the Americas and Caribbean for 2026, a distinction welcomed by tourism officials as a major boost to the island’s global reputation.
Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc, Andrea Franklin, said the recognition comes at a critical time when international travelers are becoming more selective due to an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.

“This acknowledgment helps to further position Barbados as a destination that offers a safe, stable, and reliable experience,” Franklin said in a statement following the announcement by Travel and Tour World. “We must remain committed to maintaining the high standards that continue to earn the trust of those who travel here.”
Franklin noted that the accolade reflects years of strategic investment aimed at building a destination grounded in safety, security, and exceptional visitor experiences. She emphasized that the achievement is rooted in the people of Barbados, whose professionalism and hospitality continue to distinguish the island on the global stage.
“At the heart of this recognition are the Barbadian people, whose warmth and dedication ensure that every visitor feels safe, respected, and genuinely welcomed,” she said.
She added that the recognition is a source of national pride, particularly for those working across the tourism and hospitality sectors who contribute daily to maintaining a secure and inviting environment.
However, Franklin cautioned that safety must be continuously reinforced.
“Safety is not a static achievement, it is a shared and ongoing responsibility that extends beyond visitors to include the well-being of our citizens and communities,” she stated.
She highlighted ongoing efforts to uphold high standards through well-regulated tourism experiences, strong community partnerships, and robust governance frameworks that benefit both residents and visitors.
The recognition comes on the heels of a record-breaking year for Barbados’ tourism industry. In 2025, the island welcomed more than 729,000 long-stay visitors, a 3.3 percent increase over 2024, driven largely by strong growth from the United States market.
