Concacaf President Victor Montagliani on Melchie Dumornay winning the Concacaf Women’s Player of the Year Award for 2023/24: “On behalf of Concacaf, I congratulate Melchie as a very worthy winner of this award. We have seen her tremendous rise in our confederation with her incredible skill and determination. We saw it in our W Championship in Mexico two years ago for the Haiti national team and again in her outstanding performances in the FIFA Women’s World Cup last year. She is doing great things for her club in France and is an inspiration for people in Haiti and all of the Concacaf region.”
Concacaf President Victor Montagliani on Adalberto Carrasquilla winning the Concacaf Men’s Player of the Year Award for 2023/24: “Coco Carrasquilla was the best player in our 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup. He inspired and led Panama to the Final with outstanding performances, and during his club season with the Houston Dynamo, he led them to the US Open Cup title and a berth into the Concacaf Champions Cup. He has driven Panama to the next level on the pitch, and I congratulate him as a very worthy Concacaf Player of the Year. On behalf of Concacaf, I congratulate Coco for a fantastic season.”
Olympique Lyonnais Féminin midfielder Dumornay is the first Haitian to win Concacaf Women’s Player of the Year honors and the second Caribbean player (Jamaica and Manchester City player Khadija Shaw winning the accolade last year). The 21-year-old has been a rising star in the region due to her stellar performances for club and country.
Haiti and Dumornay began their 2023/24 season by competing in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Dumornay played in all three Group Stage matches, competing against England, China, and Denmark.
Dumornay also represented her nation in the Road to W Gold Cup tournament later in the year, where she finished as joint top scorer with eight goals – Haiti finished second place in its group and qualified for the 2024 W Gold Cup Prelims.
At the club level with Olympique Lyonnais in the French first division, Dumornay was equally impressive. Throughout the 2023/24 season, Dumornay appeared in 20 matches and scored nine goals across all club competitions, winning the first two trophies of her profes-
sional career. Dumornay scored the first goal in a 2-0 win over PSG to win the 2023 Trophée des Championnes.
Her exceptional performance also earned her the 2023/24 UEFA Women’s Champions League Young Player of the Season award.
