Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn was chosen on Wednesday to serve as the Majority Whip of the Democratic-controlled New York State Assembly. She represents the 42nd AD of Brooklyn, which encompasses Ditmas Park, Flatbush, East Flatbush, and Midwood.
In a statement, Bichotte stated, “I am extremely grateful and appreciative of New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie for entrusting me to assume the leadership and duties of Majority Whip.”

She noted, am excited to continue to steadfastly serve my constituents while also further elevating all in our great State of New York.”
Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, a prevailing assemblymember, district chief, and chair of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, has been a vocal advocate for issues affecting immigration, education, economic development, unemployment, education reform, health care access, senior citizen centers, affordable housing, school safety, women’s and LGBTQ rights, as well as other issues affecting the quality of life in the community.
She serves on the committees for housing, government operations, education, banks, health, and higher education in addition to serving as chair of the subcommittee overseeing minority and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs) and as chair of the task force on women’s issues. In addition, she participates in the MWBE Task Force of Mayor Adams and the Domestic Violence Advisory Council of Governor Hochul.
