Authorities in the Dominican Republic recently noted that an immigration official had been detained after being suspected of raping a Haitian lady in front of her 4-year-old kid while she was being held in a detention cell at the nation’s main international airport.
The unnamed agent was taken into custody over the weekend, and according to prosecutor Milciades Guzmán, he has asked a judge to order that the suspect stay in jail while the inquiry is ongoing.

According to officials, the alleged event happened early at a holding cell at Santo Domingo, the city of the Dominican Republic’s Las Américas International Airport.
The woman, according to officials, was held in the Dominican Republic for allegedly presenting bogus documents while traveling to Nicaragua. The Haitian mother claimed that a misunderstanding over the paperwork was caused by the boy’s father’s last name, according to Mayra Jiménez, head of the Dominican Ministry for Women.
The lady claimed that after she was arrested, the agent went to the cell where she was being held and told her to remove her clothing. She admitted to resisting but changed her mind because she worried for her son, who was sleeping in the same cell as her, Guzmán said, noting that prosecutors quickly obtained an arrest warrant.
The child is temporarily in the government’s custody, according to the National Migration Agency.
