Walter Greene, a fashion writer, passed away in New York on December 2, 2024, after inspiring and assisting several generations of Black models and creatives.
Walter was CARIB News Fashion and Travel editor for decades and his Fashion Flash Columns was a must-read. Carib News’ Publishers Faye and Karl Rodney referred to Walter as “the consummate journalist and a key member of the team”. A great loss to the profession and the community.

Greene, 74, passed away at his residence in Uptown New York City, and funeral arrangements are being organized for him. According to Greene’s niece Alana Doornick, the cause of his death is still unknown.
The New York Police Department reported that a 74-year-old man was discovered at the residence on December 2nd, but did not provide a name for the dead. There is an ongoing non-criminal inquiry.
Greene, the youngest of five children born in Guyana, moved to New York City in the early 1970s to pursue a career in fashion. After starting out at Mercury Records, Greene spent decades as a writer for Carib News, the leading weekly Caribbean-American news source in the US.
Along with working behind the scenes on fashion events, he styled models and planned the shows, as well as collaborating with emerging designers and models. Later, he worked as a freelancer for American publications such as Odyssey Couleur, Sister 2 Sister, Essence, Modern Luxury’s Edition, and local glossies.
