Today, several demonstrations erupted across the United States in protest of President Donald Trump’s administration policies. A grassroots organizing online under the hashtags #buildtheresistance and #50501 coordinated demonstrations in all 50 states, urging Americans to reject policies they view as threats to democracy. 50501 is short for “50 protests, 50 states, one day”).
Crowds rallied against immigration crackdowns, Project 2025, Elon Musk, restrictions on transgender rights, and controversial proposals, including the forced relocation of Palestinians from Gaza.

In cities such as Philadelphia, Austin, and Atlanta, protesters carried signs condemning President Trump, Elon Musk’s leadership of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency, and the far-right political agenda outlined in Project 2025.
Here in the City, New Yorkers protested outside the Midtown Manhattan office of Sen. Charles Schumer urging him to show the way.
Protesters in Washington, DC marched from streets around the Capitol to the Department of Labor building on Constitution Avenue.
Lansing, Michigan saw hundreds braving freezing temperatures to protest Musk’s access to Treasury Department data, with concerns about security risks to Social Security and Medicare. Signs questioning DOGE’s legitimacy appeared in Missouri, while chants of “deport Elon” rang through the streets of Phoenix.
Meanwhile, in Denver, protests coincided with ICE operations that resulted in multiple detentions.
In Columbus, Ohio, protesters gathered outside the Statehouse shouting, “Wake up USA! Stop the coup that’s underway!”
In Des Moines, demonstrators disrupted a Moms for Liberty event inside Iowa’s Capitol, leading to law enforcement removing four people in handcuffs.
Missouri protesters vowed not to bend or be silenced.
In St. Paul, thousands marched, with many carrying reworked campaign signs expressing disappointment in the administration’s direction.
In Austin, Texas, where Musk now has his headquarters, residents expressed their disapproval of the billionaire despite his company brining jobs to the state. They deem his takeover of the government as a coup. Chants of “No more Musk, stop the coup,” “Reclaim our county, take back our rights,” could be heard form the crowds.
Alabama saw large gatherings condemning state-level policies targeting LGBTQ+ rights, following Governor Kay Ivey’s pledge to sign legislation defining sex as strictly male or female.
Across the country, demonstrators voiced fears over the administration’s sweeping executive orders and called for action to defend civil rights, democracy, and marginalized communities.
