Across the twin islands, there has been considerable speculation when it was revealed that Vybz Kartel, a Jamaican dancehall performer, will be the main act at a T&T Carnival Friday event on February 28, 2025.
Carnival Friday, which historically features important local showcases like the International Soca Monarch, is a highly esteemed day on the national calendar.

Absent that competition, MECKA Magic Meets Culture at Queen’s Park Savannah this year’s Carnival Friday highlighted soca legend Machel Montano as the headlining act of The One Show at Hasely Crawford Stadium in 2023.
Kartel was seen clutching what looked to be a signed contract in a recent video that DJ Jel shared on X stating, “Trinidad 2025, February 28.” Promoter Shane Medford later wrote on Facebook that the One Caribbean Festival was a cultural extravaganza that included more than 15 soca artists in addition to Kartel, celebrating Caribbean music, culture, and food.
The news has drawn a lot of attention despite these guarantees. Medford told the Express that questions should be sent to Joel “Signal to Noise,” the program director for Slam 100.5, who then messaged: “They are sending a press release in a bit.”
