Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has reaffirmed Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing relationship with the United States following high-level diplomatic talks focused on expanding cooperation in trade, security, investment, and regional development.
The discussions were held at the Diplomatic Centre in St. Ann’s with a visiting U.S. delegation that included senior officials from the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). According to the Prime Minister, the meeting underscored the strong and enduring partnership between the two countries and their shared interest in promoting regional stability and economic growth.

Persad-Bissessar said her administration is committed to building international partnerships that generate investment, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for citizens. She noted that discussions also explored opportunities to deepen collaboration in energy, infrastructure, national security, and private-sector development, while reaffirming Trinidad and Tobago’s role as a key regional partner of the United States.
The meeting comes amid growing cooperation between Washington and Caribbean governments on issues including border security, transnational crime, energy security and economic resilience. Earlier this month, the United States and CARICOM signed a landmark biometric data-sharing agreement aimed at strengthening regional border management and combating organized crime, reflecting broader efforts to enhance cooperation across the Caribbean.
Both sides expressed optimism that the strengthened partnership will lead to increased investment and expanded collaboration in the months ahead. The Prime Minister emphasized that Trinidad and Tobago values its relationship with the United States and will continue pursuing engagement based on mutual respect, shared values and a common commitment to prosperity and sustainable development.
