An increase in financing for unsponsored steel bands and steelpan players has been authorized by the cabinet. The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and the Arts said in a recently released statement, “These boosts in funding reaffirm the Government’s commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural legacy of the steelpan – our National Musical Instrument, ensuring that the vibrant spirit of Carnival thrives for generations to come.”
Additionally, it stated that these actions, which were taken in advance of Carnival 2025, “aim to enhance participation in Panorama and foster greater inclusivity within the Steelband community. This increase reflects the Government’s recognition of the critical role that the steelpan fraternity plays in shaping the Carnival experience, both locally and internationally.”

The additional financial mechanisms announced for Carnival 2025 in the publication are to Increase funds for unsponsored steel bands- Unsponsored steel bands participating in Panorama 2025 will benefit from greater financial support. Each of the 96 Conventional Bands and 54 Single Pan Bands competing will be eligible for these grants:
· Single Pan Bands: Each band is now eligible for $10,000 in grants, up from $7,500 before.
· Conventional Bands: Each band is now receiving $20,000 instead of $15,000 in grants.
Additionally, the government has boosted the remittances given to steelpan musicians in an effort to boost their involvement and support as they get ready for Panorama 2025. Each player now receives $800 instead of $500 in financial support, which helps with necessary expenses like meals and travel throughout the tournament.
Randall Mitchell, Minister of Tourism, Culture, and the Arts, meantime, emphasized the significance of the budget boost.
He stated, “This increase in funding to the unsponsored steel bands and to the individual steelpan players reiterates our strengthened commitment to the steel band community. Steelband music is an integral part of our cultural heritage, and we are proud to invest in the pannists and bands that help bring this vibrant tradition to life.”
“With these grants, we aim to provide the necessary tools and assistance for steelband players to continue their artistry, expand their reach, and make lasting contributions to the music world and Trinbago’s cultural heritage.”
