Threads of Us, a powerful new independent feature film anchored by an all-Caribbean cast and crew, has officially wrapped principal photography. Directed by acclaimed Caribbean filmmaker Mykal Cushnie and written by Donisha Prendergast—granddaughter of reggae icons Bob and Rita Marley—the film presents a deeply moving love story grounded in the raw, poetic reality of Jamaican life.
Set against the vibrant yet turbulent backdrop of modern-day Kingston, Threads of Us follows the intimate love between Malcolm, a factory worker, and Danielle, a spirited seamstress. Their quiet connection is upended when Malcolm is falsely accused of a crime, triggering a cascade of events rooted in betrayal, injustice, and ultimately, resistance. As Danielle threads fabric by day, the story weaves a rich narrative of resilience and unyielding devotion.

“We’re telling a story that’s as poetic as it is powerful — and unapologetically Jamaican,” said Cushnie, known for his work on Mission Catwalk, Run Kenya, and the pan-African series Sweetest Taboo. “Threads of Us is rooted in the real rhythm of Jamaican life.”
The film’s artistic soul is matched by its immersive soundtrack, featuring original music from the Marley family, Grammy-winning producers, and reggae legends. The cast includes powerhouse performers such as Owen ‘Blakka’ Ellis, Anna-Sharé ‘Sevana’ Blake, Shomari Downer, and Jo Anne Williams, bringing authenticity and emotional depth to every frame.
Produced by Direct Shoot Edit Jamaica in association with Humanity Ova Vanity (HOV) and the Bob Marley Museum, Threads of Us also unites a coalition of regional production partners including Kaemedia Entertainment, Fareye Film Productions, iKon Media & Films, and Goal Post. The film’s executive producers are Kady Edwards-Campbell (The Sixth Sense) and Horane Henry (Fear, Raw Materials, Chrissy).
But the impact of Threads of Us extends far beyond the screen. With a mission rooted in community upliftment and cultural empowerment, the film is tied to a larger social outreach campaign led by HOV and the Charles Officer Mentorship Program, aiming to nurture the next generation of Caribbean storytellers.
With its fusion of love, cultural authenticity, and social commentary, Threads of Us promises to be a landmark film for the region — a cinematic tapestry of heartbreak, hope, and the enduring spirit of the Caribbean.
