Tuskegee University is celebrating an extraordinary academic milestone after 10 graduating seniors from the Class of 2026 earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages throughout their entire college careers, reinforcing the institution’s growing reputation for academic excellence and leadership development.
The achievement comes just days after seven students at Spelman College made headlines as co-valedictorians, further highlighting a banner year for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Tuskegee University President Mark A. Brown described the students as “a shining example of what the Tuskegee experience can be,” praising their discipline, leadership, and commitment to excellence both inside and outside the classroom.
Among the standout graduates is biology pre-med major Joi Kayla Axem, who combined her flawless academic record with extensive leadership and research experience. She plans to pursue a career in pediatrics focused on underserved communities.
Kerri Danielle Barnes distinguished herself through both academics and campus leadership. A biology major and former Miss Biology, Barnes served in leadership roles with the Student Activities Board, the NAACP, the Student Government Association, and the Office of Admissions. Tuskegee also recognized her as a College of Arts and Sciences University Scholar and Distinguished Presidential Scholar.
Future cardiothoracic surgeon Nilajah Nyota Buchanan, a biology major from Huntsville, Alabama, will continue her education at Emory University. Her work has included clinical research, psychology studies, and involvement in public health sanitation initiatives in South Africa.
Biology pre-med graduate Yasmin A. Davis plans to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology, with a strong focus on maternal health advocacy and reducing disparities in women’s healthcare. Her experience includes clinical internships, research, and community leadership initiatives.
Double-major graduate Alaynah Eldridge earned degrees in English language arts education and English literature while maintaining a perfect GPA. Inspired by both the pandemic era and national conversations surrounding race, she chose Tuskegee for its strong HBCU environment and later studied abroad in Berlin. She hopes to pursue a future in education leadership and curriculum design.
Computer science graduate Darren Raymond Hall developed expertise in machine learning, software development, cloud technologies, and data engineering during his studies. His technical background includes programming languages and analytical tools such as Python, C++, SQL, Oracle, and Power BI.
First-generation college graduate Keevion Hardamon completed double majors in electrical and computer engineering before securing a position with NextEra Energy as a protection and control engineer. Hardamon credited Tuskegee with transforming both his academic outlook and personal growth.
Accounting graduate Charniece Elliana Jones built expertise in financial reporting, auditing, business valuation, and data analysis while preparing for a career in finance and accounting.
Brooklyn Monae Macklin completed a bachelor’s degree in animal science with a pre-veterinary concentration and has already advanced into Tuskegee’s Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program — the only veterinary program at an HBCU in the United States.
Environmental science graduate Leah D. Saunders plans to work with a federal environmental agency after graduation. Her studies included soil remediation research and participation in the 2025 Arctic Summer Internship Program.
Collectively, the students represent a broad range of academic disciplines, leadership experiences, and career ambitions, underscoring the enduring role of HBCUs in producing high-achieving graduates prepared to lead in science, medicine, education, business, engineering, and public service.
