All four people on board a U.S. registered private plane carrying them died in a catastrophic crash that happened soon after takeoff from J.F. Mitchell airfield on the Grenadine Island of Bequia.
The St Vincent Times newspaper which covered the report stated that when the single-engine aircraft crashed close to Petit Nevis, three passengers—US citizens—from the same family died.

The three travelers—two adults and two children—were reportedly on holiday in Bequia and were leaving the island today, January 5, 2024.
On January 4, just after noon, the aircraft, with its pilot and three passengers, took off from Bequia and headed for Hewanorra Airport in St. Lucia.
When the collision occurred, local fishermen responded quickly to the scene and worked with the Coast Guard to recover the victims.
Videos of the plane falling to its fatal crash were captured by locals in La Pompe. Locals informed the St. Vincent Times newspaper that as the plane took off, it made an odd sound.
“The noise matched that of a vehicle experiencing difficulty in generating sufficient force to climb a hill”.
According to an aviation expert, the aircraft appeared to have stalled just after takeoff.
In aerodynamics and aviation, a stall occurs when an aircraft’s lift begins to diminish as the angle of attack rises over a certain point. The precise angle at which this phenomenon occurs is known as the crucial angle of attack. The airplane lowers and the lift diminishes if the angle of attack exceeds the critical threshold, increasing the angle of attack and further reducing lift.
With the bodies recovered, the Coast Guard is presently en route to the mainland.
