On January 30, 2024, Selah Marley, daughter of Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley, expressed via Instagram – “Unrelated, but all this Bob Marley movie promo really just keeps reminding me of the fact that I was robbed of a grandfather.”
Selah quickly cleared the air when some people misinterpreted her statement as suggesting that her family wasn’t participating in the upcoming biopic Bob Marley: One Love.

“Y’all are dragging it lmfao,” she remarked. “Never said my family wasn’t a part of the movie. Never said I didn’t like it. Never said…any of those things.”
The 25-year-old continued, “I simply stated that [the film] is a stark reminder of the fact that my grandfather passed when my father [Rohan Marley] was only nine years old. That can be a saddening thing to remember at times.” After suffering a rare form of skin cancer, Bob Marley passed away in May 1981 at the age of 36.
She pointed out that the melancholy she was describing isn’t “debilitating or even a sadness that requires pity,” nonetheless, it is more of a “humanizing sadness.” Selah also reminded the general population that although Bob Marley may be a sensationalized celebrity to the general public, to her he was “the patriarch of [her] family.”
“I’ve been further guided into that reflection with the promotion of his upcoming film, which I do hope you guys go see!! What an amazing man he is,” she claimed.
Kingsley Ben-Adir portrays renowned reggae artist Bob Marley in the film One Love. The film, which is helmed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, will chronicle his journey of triumphing over hardship and honor his influential life and groundbreaking music.
It will be shown in theaters on Valentine’s Day. The movie was produced in collaboration with the Marley family.
