“Cheap Thrills,” the 2016 hit song by Australian singer-songwriter Sia featuring Dancehall superstar Sean Paul, has achieved a remarkable milestone by being certified 9X Platinum in the United States. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) granted this certification on Wednesday, July 3, recognizing the song for reaching the equivalent of 9 million units sold through sales and streaming.
This success sets the stage for “Cheap Thrills” to potentially become Sia’s second Diamond-certified single, following the recent Diamond certification of her song “Chandelier” on the same day.

Produced by Greg Kurstin, “Cheap Thrills” features on Sia’s seventh studio album, “This Is Acting.” The popular version with Sean Paul’s distinctive patois-infused verses was later made available for digital download.
The song, characterized as a lively, Dancehall-influenced synthpop track, marked significant achievements for both artists. It became Sia’s first Billboard No. 1 song and Sean Paul’s fourth, and his first chart-topper in a decade. Additionally, the success of “Cheap Thrills” made Sia the first woman over 40 to top the Billboard Hot 100 since Madonna did so with “Music” in 2000.
In the UK, “Cheap Thrills” enjoyed an impressive 66-week run on the Singles Chart. The song also received a nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards.
The lyric video for “Cheap Thrills,” released in February 2016, has garnered over 1.8 billion views on YouTube, further cementing its enduring popularity.
