Last Friday October 31, reports show that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro asked Russian President Vladimir Putin for military assistance as the U.S. concentrates forces in the Caribbean, citing internal U.S. government documents it obtained. Russia has since responded, condemning the attacks by the US in the region.
Russia’s foreign ministry referred tot he strikes as “excessive military force” and reaffirmed its support for Venezuela’s leaders. Foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a commentary on her ministry’s website:

“We firmly denounce the use of excessive military force in carrying out actions in anti-drugs operations. Such actions are in violation of both U.S. domestic legislation … and the norms of international law.
The build up of US military presence near Venezuela has so far targeted at least 14 boats and killed 61 people, with reports of body parts washing up onshore in Trinidad.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a strategic partnership agreement in Moscow in May.
