The New York State Senate 2023 Veterans’ Hall of Fame Award was given to Tricia Navarro-Caraballo, a detective in the New York Police Department (NYPD) born in Trinidad and Tobago.
According to Persaud, the Guyanese-born senator from Brooklyn’s 19th Senate District, the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame was established, “to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from the Empire State who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life.”

The Senator added, “Their meritorious service to our nation deserves the special recognition that only a Hall of Fame can provide as a fitting expression of our gratitude and admiration.”
During his visit to the NYPD’s 63rd Precinct on November 30, Persaud gave Det. Navarro-Caraballo, a Neighborhood Coordination Officer (NCO) and Senate District 19 inhabitant, the NYS Senate 2023 Veterans’ Hall of Fame Award.
Tricia Navarro-Caraballo enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2005 and served her Nation until 2017.
Born in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Ms. Navarro-Caraballo moved to the United States at the age of nine and attended Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Manhattan. Ms. Navarro-Caraballo joined the Marine Corps and recounts that, as a youngster in Brooklyn, her interest to join was sparked by their uniform and their slogan, “The Few. The Proud. The Marines.”
In 2008, Ms. Navarro-Caraballo was deployed to Iraq. For her service and
dedication, she earned numerous awards, including the NAM/Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
The life lessons Ms. Navarro-Caraballo learned, while serving in the military, were the true meaning of teamwork. Her most memorable event while in the Marine Corps was the training that she received, which led to her deployment. She knew she was part of something bigger than herself.
Growing up in Brooklyn, she had very positive interactions with police officers in her community. For her, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers’ uniform projected a sense of respect. After leaving the Marine Corps, Ms. Navarro-Caraballo decided to join one of the world’s greatest police departments, the NYPD. She had lived her dream as a United States Marine, and
she was now ready to become a police officer. Officer Navarro-Caraballo is currently assigned to the 63rd Precinct in Brooklyn as an NCO/Neighborhood Coordination Officer. Her duties include bridging the gap between the police department and the community at large by providing crucial support and services to the residents.
She is a strong believer in, “If you can dream it, you can achieve it.”
Ms. Navarro-Caraballo is married and the proud mom to three beautiful, bossy people: nine-year-old twin girls and a seven-year-old boy.
