In an effort to effectively cope with an influx of new arrivals, New York City’s mayor Eric Adams revealed plans to relocate hundreds of asylum seekers to two hotels in the region’s north for up to a total of four months, upsetting officials in the predominantly suburban area.
Mayor Eric Adams’s administration shared that up to 300 single, adult males in the city’s custody will be transferred on a voluntary basis to two hotels: one in Orangeburg, Rockland County, and another in Orange Lake, a neighboring county in Orange County.

Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, has come under fire from Adams for sending buses full of asylum seekers to New York City without obtaining prior authorization. Authorities from the regions to the city’s north recently made identical complaints against Adams.
The mayor has also asked the state and federal governments for extra assistance in dealing with the flow of asylum seekers, a majority of whom have been transported into the city by other state governors.
He said that the initiative will make it easier for the city to care for the more than 37,500 asylum seekers it now houses.
According to the government, the guys utilizing the hotels as makeshift shelters would receive meals, therapy, help from the legal system, and other services.
