In an announcement on the day of the event, MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber stated that the longtime transit worker “bleeds MTA blue.” Lieber said the current interim president was appointed full-time president of the MTA because he “really knows our system.” Gabriella Bass Crichlow’s appointment comes at a time of high turnover for the MTA, as four MTA presidents have resigned in just over four years. Crichlow stated he expects to remain in the position for at least five years.
When asked about his anticipated tenure, the MTA veteran gave media assurances, “I don’t have any plans of going anytime soon. This is my life,” the 27-year MTA veteran assured reporters in response to questions about his expected tenure.
Lieber said that the veteran transportation employee “bleeds MTA blue.”
While the MTA was the Transit Authority, Crichlow’s father worked as an MTA vehicle inspector, and his grandpa was a porter.
