Harlem, New York – In commemoration of its 50th anniversary, HARLEM WEEK today announced the National Urban Health Conference, an exclusive event aimed at tackling critical health issues affecting urban communities. This invitation-only event will focus on addressing strategic concerns related to the physical, emotional health and wellbeing of senior citizens and children, two of our society’s most vulnerable groups. “As we celebrate HARLEM WEEK’s 50th anniversary, we are committed to not only honoring our rich history but also addressing the pressing health challenges that impact communities of color nationwide,” said Lloyd Williams, Co-Founder and Chairman of HARLEM WEEK. “The National Urban Health Conference is a pivotal moment for us to come together, share knowledge, and forge a healthier future for all.”
This year’s conference, themed ‘Our Health Is Our Wealth’, will feature expert panels and discussions on two critical topics: Healthy Aging in Communities of Color, keynoted by Dr. Icilma Fergus, MD, Director of Cardiovascular Disparities at Mt. Sinai Medical Center; and The Mental and Emotional Health and Wellbeing of Our Children and Youth – Post COVID, keynoted by Hon. David Banks, Chancellor of New York City Public Schools. Both sessions will include expert panelists from the healthcare communities. Additionally, the conference will feature a fireside chat to address “Building Resilience in the Urban Family” with key NY State Senators participating.
The event is presented by The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce in partnership with US News & World Report and The City College of New York. It also marks the beginning of a series of health-focused events hosted by HARLEM WEEK throughout the summer, including the Percy Sutton Harlem 5k Run and the Black Health Matters Conference, all aimed at promoting health and wellness in the community.
