After experiencing nearly ten years of homelessness, the six sisters, known as the Lawrence siblings from New York City, are now traveling to realize their shared dream of becoming nurses.
The Queens, New York City, house of the sisters’ parents, David and Yonette, was lost in 2013. According to what they told People magazine, their family moved from one friend or relative’s home to another after that.

24-year-old Lauren stated that, “It was challenging.” She remarked, “There were a lot of very bumpy, depressing times.”
Their father decided he didn’t want their circumstances to prevent them from pursuing their studies after two years of suffering. The sisters signed up for a homeschool program in an effort to obtain their GED after finding it difficult to attend school because of their frequent movements.
“He didn’t want what we were going through to hold us back,” said the eldest sibling, 25-year-old Dominique.
Yes, the Lawrence sisters triumphed against all obstacles. Each of the six obtained their GED in 2019. After enrolling at Nassau Community College, they went on to SUNY Old Westbury, where they earned bachelor’s degrees in public health in May.
22-year-old Danielle stated, “It’s been quite an adventure, but what really pulled us through is our faith in God and in each other.”
These siblings, who range in age from 19 to 25, claimed they are only now beginning. They started a master’s degree in public health in August at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, with plans to go to nursing school thereafter.
In addition, their father is incredibly proud of his girls for achieving their goals in spite of all the difficulties they faced during their uncertain upbringing.
The proud father of the ambitious siblings noted, “I’m so happy they’ve done this together.” He added, “I always tell them, ‘Life’s not fair. And when it throws you a curveball, you gotta adjust to it and keep going.’”
