Hip Hop superstar Christopher “The Notorious BIG” Wallace’s Jamaican-born mother, Voletta Wallace, recently passed away at the age of 72.
The US media reported that Wallace passed away at her home in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, from natural causes. Wallace, who was born in the parish of Trelawny in northwest Jamaica, moved to Brooklyn, New York, to work as a teacher.

The sole child of Voletta and George Latore, another Jamaican immigrant, was her son Christopher.
Voletta spent decades protecting her son’s legacy after his murder in 1997 and was instrumental in overseeing his inheritance, which is currently estimated to be worth US$160 million.
Her mother, who is still living in Trelawny at the age of 101, her granddaughters, CJ and T’yanna, as well as other family members, survive Voletta.
