The Union of Jamaican Alumni Associations (USA) Inc. (UJAA), a leading diaspora organisation dedicated to advancing education in Jamaica and among Jamaicans abroad, will celebrate its 35th anniversary with an awards luncheon on September 14 at the Greentree Country Club in New Rochelle, New York.
Founded in 1990, UJAA is a not-for-profit volunteer coalition that has supported thousands of students and schools through scholarships, sponsorships, and educational programmes. This year’s celebration will pay tribute to outstanding individuals and organisations whose work reflects the union’s long-standing mission of service.

Among the honourees is Derrick Heaven, former Jamaican consul general to New York and the driving force behind UJAA’s creation. Also set to be recognised are Dr. Karren Dunkley, Dr. Trevor Dixon, and Jamaica’s Honorary Consul in Philadelphia, Christopher Chaplin.
UJAA President Donovan Wilson described the anniversary as both a reflection on the organisation’s impact and a recommitment to its mission. “This milestone is not just about looking back – it’s about doubling down on our promise to support education for generations to come. Our honourees embody the spirit of service, excellence, and community that has fuelled UJAA for 35 years,” he said.
Additional honourees include R. “Perry” Bloomfield, Melanie Forrest-George, Evelyn Godden, Hubert Guscott, Norma Jarrett, Colet Pinnock Watkins, Lesleyann Samuel, Gloria Thompson, and Cherika Wilson.
Community honourees will be Dr. Garfield Clunie, Leo Gilling, June O’Connor, Naala Royale-Holder, Joel Webbe, and Sarah Williams.
The event, which takes place every five years, marks UJAA’s seventh quinquennial celebration. It will be held under the patronage of Jamaica’s Consul General to New York, Alsion Wilson, and will feature a cocktail reception, live entertainment, lunch, dancing, and the presentation of awards.
Veteran community leader Irwine Clare, Sr. will serve as master of ceremonies.
