The American Foundation for The University of the West Indies (AFUWI) is set to honor Michele Chow-Tai at its 27th Annual “The Legacy Continues” Awards Gala, an event that epitomizes excellence and a steadfast commitment to education. This event will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 583 Park Avenue, New York City, starting at 6:30 pm.
Michele Chow-Tai, a distinguished figure in the financial services industry, will be awarded the prestigious Vice-Chancellor Achievement Award. AFUWI is privileged to recognize Ms. Chow-Tai for her exceptional achievements and her pioneering role as a woman of color in a challenging and dynamic sector. Her career serves as an inspirational testament to perseverance and determination, breaking barriers and achieving leadership roles that have placed her at the forefront of the corporate world.

Ms. Chow-Tai’s journey, marked by significant contributions to diversity and sustainability, reflects her commitment to creating inclusive governance and leadership. Her involvement on various boards of nonprofit and charitable organizations underscores her dedication to galvanizing support for impactful causes.
AFUWI is also proud to honor other exemplary individuals for their contributions and achievements His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, will be bestowed with the Legacy Award. Donald Christian of Pricewaterhouse Coopers is set to receive the Caribbean Luminary Award. Antony Mark Desnoes Hart, Chairman of Caribbean Producers Jamaica, will receive the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Business Leadership & Community Engagement, and The Hart Group is the recipient of the Corporate Award for Business Excellence. Rev. Patrick Perrin, a retired Pastor of United Methodist Churches in Brooklyn & Queens will receive The Pelican Award, and Darren Skinner, Esq., Partner at Arnold & Porter, will be honored with The Pinnacle Award.
AFUWI is the principal link between The University of the West Indies (UWI) and the organizations, individuals, and corporations who support the University’s important work. “The Legacy Continues” Gala stands as AFUWI’s signature fundraising event, directly supporting the scholarship program for deserving students at UWI. On average, 50 exceptional students receive scholarships annually through this initiative. Over the last decade, approximately 600 tuition scholarships have been awarded, alongside fostering relationships with other leading institutions. The need for support has notably increased in the wake of the global pandemic, doubling the demand from deserving students. AFUWI is dedicated to meeting this need and encourages support through the #donatetoeducate campaign.
