The family of Jamaican ska legend Derrick Morgan is standing firm in their pursuit to restore his reputation, as their defamation lawsuit against his daughter, singer Queen Ifrica (Ventrice Morgan), moves forward. The case, Derrick Morgan v. Ventrice Morgan, is set for a case management session on May 8 in Jamaica’s Supreme Court, where both parties will provide updates on the legal proceedings.
The lawsuit, filed in June 2024, alleges that Queen Ifrica made false and damaging claims against her father in public videos, interviews, and social media posts starting on August 1, 2023. In one video, she spoke about a strained childhood relationship with Morgan due to her mother’s struggles but claimed she later attempted to reconnect as an adult. The lawsuit states that her accusations included a specific incident at Morgan’s Kingston home, which his family, friends, and neighbors found deeply puzzling and harmful to his legacy.

After the initial video surfaced, Morgan’s legal team sent Queen Ifrica a cease-and-desist letter, demanding she retract her statements and issue a public apology. Instead, the lawsuit claims, she doubled down, posting another video with even more exaggerated allegations.
Derrick Morgan’s son, businessman Merrick Morgan, emphasized the family’s commitment to legal action:
“We intend to do all that is necessary and within the confines of the law to clear our father’s reputation of these terrible, malicious, and baseless allegations.”
Another son, Dr. Courtney Morgan, expressed the family’s shock and disappointment:
“We have always embraced her as part of our family, and for her to do this has left us dumbfounded as it has potentially damaged our father’s stellar reputation.”
Morgan’s attorney, Charles ‘Advoket’ Ganga-Singh, vowed to pursue the case aggressively:
“We will be pursuing this matter in court with the utmost rigor.”
Meanwhile, Queen Ifrica has retained attorney Seymour Stewart to represent her in the defamation suit.
