Javaun Fearon, popularly known as Masicka, has signed a contract with the Def Jam record company, which is situated in New York.
On Tuesday, the news was made on social media.

Def Jam recently made the announcement on social media stating, “Welcome to the Def Jam family @masickamusic #DefSyde.”
The Dancehall artiste, debuted his first song under the new contract, titled “Pieces” with Jashii.
“Piece is a song of triumph. It’s a celebration of what you have worked hard for and motivates the listeners to keep going. You will be victorious,” he shared.
“The song touches on overcoming challenges and obstacles you face along the way, as we navigate through this thing called life. The challenges you’ve faced will make you stronger. They mold you into a warrior. The warrior which is needed to be successful,” Masicka noted.
Masicka’s signing was praised by Tunji Balogun, chairman and CEO of Def Jam Records, in a press statement.
“Def Jam has always been the home for great artists across the wide spectrum of Black music, and Masicka is very much emblematic of that vision,” Balogun stated.
He continued, “Representing the new wave of Jamaican dancehall and reggae, Masicka’s versatility and unique sonic perspective has the potential to impact markets all over the world. It feels like the beginning of something very special. We’re excited to welcome him to our Def Jam family.”
Masicka will join the list of music geniuses on Def Jam’s current roster, which also includes DJ Khaled and Buju Banton, whose new deal with the label was recently revealed.
LaTrice Burnette, executive vice president of Def Jam Recordings/President, 4th & Broadway, added, “As a lifelong fan of reggae and dancehall music, I’ve been tracking Masicka’s rise very closely.”

According to the label’s official website, other notable artists on the roster include 2 Chainz, Big Sean, Dave East, Jhené Aiko, Justin Bieber, Hugo Long, Nas, and others.
