Also in rotation now is “I’m Happy” an original Mary Isaacs composition, with a lyrical assist from the legendary Sangie Davis (“Wake Up and Live” and other Bob Marley classics), who also did additional duties as arranger and producer.
Davis also served as producer on another original composition, “Tell Me”, a song which the singer’s vocals, the lyrics and the production, melded seamlessly. “It’s good to hear and feel that you are loved just as you love. Knowing both loves are unconditional, you will stay true through ups and downs and do whatever it takes to strengthen that bond and commitment.”
In each of the three, indeed as with all of the music she has chosen to record and perform over her long and acclaimed career, Isaacs seeks to express such timeless truths and deep emotions, in a way that listeners can both immediately relate yet still find new pleasures in the presentation. That credo is apart of whatled Executive Producer, Jah Lloyd of Issachar Muzik to work with her, having seen her perform.
Isaacs began her musical career in earnest in New York City in the early 1980s.
There she gained exposure to a wide range of genres as the lead female vocalist of the People’s Heritage Band, a Caribbean show and dance ensemble.
Her first single, “You and I”, produced by the late Geoffrey Chung, was recorded as a performing member of the group.
After enjoying a few years on the road, the talented songbird took a short break but sprang back as a solo artiste dropping a new single, “Come Back”, which opened new doors for her all over the Tri-State area. She quickly followed up with a lover’s rock chart-topper and signature song, “A Little Bit Of Heaven”, produced and arranged by Willie Lindo for Aqua-Gem Records.
The single shot to No. 1 on WLIB’s Top Ten Caribbean Chart, peaking at No. 8 on its Top 100 list.
She maintained the momentum with the Love People Records production, “Missing You”, with studio and performance legends Sly & Robbie at the helm.
Her first album “So Good, So Right” followed not long after on the Aqua-Gem Records Label. Her sophomore album, “I Want You, I Need You” saw the equally legendary Boris Gardener behind the boards for the independent label MakaJamm Records.
Always in demand as a performer, Mary Isaacs has shared the stage with such elite recording artistes and performers as Patti Labelle, The Manhattans and Tito Puente and calypso/soca superstars like The Mighty Sparrow, King Short Shirt, Arrow, Beckett, Denise Plummer, Lord Kitchener and Calypso Rose.
She is, of course, equally at home with reggae, having collaborated on stage with the likes of the late Crown Prince Dennis Brown, Aswad, Marcia Griffith, Carlene Davis, JC Lodge, Ken Boothe, Phyllis Dillon and Paul Blake & Blood Fire, Posse to name but a few.
Driven by her passion for music, Mary has teamed up with several other prominent hit makers such as producers Philip Smart, Sidney Mills, Stephen Stewart, Paul “Jah Screw” Love and the aforementioned Sangi Davis, Boris Gardener and Willie Lindo.
Isaacs is more than pleased with the recent works and proud of being able to express herself as a songwriter, with the anticipation of later rewards via publishing and copyrights.
