It is with profound sadness that we the family announce the passing of our beloved Kassandra Amirh Campbell, who departed this world peacefully on Saturday September 13, 2025 at White Plains Hospital, after a battle with cancer. We are none the less comforted by the fact that cancer did not have the last word, because Kassandra’s saw to that.
Maybe, it was her middle name “Amirh” (given by her father) that has influenced her personality. “Amirh” of Arabic origin, means princess, and symbolizes strength, leadership and nobility. So it is little wonder that Kassandra embodied and demonstrated all of those principles.

Kassandra was brilliant from an early age, so much so that she skipped Kindergarten and 1st grade. At the young age of 16 she graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx, and attended Rochester Institute of Technology.
She later returned to the Bronx where she pursued a career in Healthcare as a nurse. Kassandra could be best described as a hybrid professional, exploring all possibilities and giving the best of herself in serving her community. Due to her bold and explorative drive, she acquired the diverse skills necessary for making her one of the best community organizers in the North East Bronx.
Since 2018, Kassandra served as the President of the Jamaica Benevolent Arm & Cultural Center (JBACC) — a nonprofit arm within the larger Jamaica Progressive League, which was organized in 1936, to address the social welfare and concerns of the Caribbean Community overall.
Her major focus was promoting community engagement which would ensure access to knowledge, skills, and resources for all. Her belief was, that with engagement comes empowerment that would counteract hopelessness that was on full display particularly in our Bronx community.
Food insecurity was one of Kassandra’s gravest concerns and her main intent was solving this issue. This she found out was even more difficult than she had envisioned. She once stated that, “It’s hard because I think it really is about capitalism. It’s more profitable for a city to have a McDonald’s than a supermarket.” This led to conceptualizing the idea of the food pantry which was formed and operated by the Jamaica Benevolent Arm & Cultural Center. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 300 families were served on a weekly basis. This however, would not have been possible without the produce supplied by Mott Haven Fridge Network.
Under Kassandra’s leadership, the organization flourished. It hosted community health fairs, mental health first aid classes which taught participants how to recognize mental illnesses and identify the signs and symptoms of a mental health. It also assisted in the voter registration drive for the 2020 election. Another success, was the partnership with New York City and Lutheran Social Services that conducted a workshop to inform immigrants of their rights.
Kassandra was a true personification of courage. She was definite in her convictions and actions, and often expressed that even though she was supportive of collaborative efforts, we should to be always be cautious in selecting when and where to participate.
So as we mourn the passing of this extraordinary individual, we are indeed grateful for her contribution to the development of the community and it is crucial to ensure that her legacy continues.
