Jamaican-born actor Sule Thelwell is set to make waves on the global stage with his casting in the third season of Netflix’s hit series XO, Kitty. Netflix confirmed on July 17 that production has officially wrapped in Seoul, South Korea, and among the newest additions to the ensemble is Thelwell, who continues Jamaica’s proud tradition of contributing standout talent to international film and television.
XO, Kitty—a spin-off of Jenny Han’s beloved To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise—follows the youngest Covey sister, Kitty Song Covey, as she navigates life, love, and identity at an elite school in Korea. As the series builds on its global fan base, Thelwell joins as Marius, a previously mentioned character now stepping into the spotlight.

A Breakout Role and a New Journey
Though full details of his role remain under wraps, Thelwell described Marius as a complex and emotionally layered addition to the ensemble.
“I am hopeful that audiences will connect with Marius’ humanity,” said Thelwell. “What drives him may put him at odds with a few fan favorites, but viewers can expect laughter, surprises, and a gracious dollop of charm.”
Filming during the height of a Korean summer posed some unexpected challenges for the Jamaican actor. “It’s just as hot as Jamaica,” he joked. “But we were dressed for later in the year—suh mi did a bun up.”
Despite the heat, Thelwell said his first day on set felt “comforting and familiar,” describing a moment of reflection and awe as he looked around at the massive production.
“There I was, a likkle yute from May Pen, standing amidst it all as an instrumental part. All I could feel was overwhelming gratitude.”
From May Pen to Netflix
Thelwell’s journey into acting began in Jamaica, where he attended Glenmuir High School and DeCarteret College. He earned national awards in speech and drama through the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) and developed his acting skills with QUILT Performing Arts Company, led by Rayon McLean. He credits QUILT and McLean for laying the foundation that launched his international career.
Following his early success, Thelwell went on to study at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London, earning his BA in Acting in 2024. During his studies, he auditioned for a Netflix project that didn’t materialize—but the tape caught the attention of Disney, which cast him as Desmond in the Hulu series Saint X, based on Alexis Schaitkin’s psychological novel.
Now based between Jamaica, London, and Asia, Thelwell sees his role in XO, Kitty not just as personal success but a broader moment of representation.
“It’s a big moment for what’s possible. For Caribbean talent, it’s proof that we belong on the global stage.”
Representing Jamaica—and Redefining the Future
Thelwell embraces his role as a cultural ambassador, eager to elevate Caribbean stories and talent through mainstream platforms.
“It means I get to shape the future of Caribbean film and art in real time. Jamaicans are storytellers. Once we have the resources, capital, and the audience—we’ll be more influential than ever before.”
His dream role? Miles Morales, the Afro-Latino Spider-Man, a character he views as deeply symbolic.
“[Miles] represents the pinnacle of every young Black actor’s dream. He embodies possibility—and that’s what I’m chasing.”
For Thelwell, acting is more than a career—it’s a mission to inspire.
“Whether I’m in front of the camera or behind it, I want to tell stories that spark conversation, inspire change, and move people. That’s my promise with every project I take on.”
With Season 3 of XO, Kitty on the horizon and a powerful message of visibility and perseverance behind him, Sule Thelwell is a rising force not just in acting but in redefining what’s possible for Caribbean creatives on the world stage.
Netflix has not yet announced an official premiere date for Season 3 of XO, Kitty.
